PROJECT SMARTS EDUCATION

WE GET PEOPLE CONNECTED.

WE BELIEVE THAT, BY UTILISING WELL-PLANNED BOARD GAME SESSIONS, COLLEAGUES CAN EXPLORE, DISCOVER AND DEVELOP AS A TEAM.

WE AIM AT JOINING THE UNIQUENESS OF PEOPLE AND UNITING THEM INTO SOMETHING STRONGER.

WHY BOARD GAMES?

LEARNING THROUGH EXPERIENCE

Board game simulates different scenarios for colleagues to experience. It challenges them
to think critically in resolving tasks, establish team strategy, effectively communicate to exchange information. This is a pure experiential learning experience which we believe fit well in education.

IT IS
MOTIVATING

Board game is designed for play - the basic need which we might lack for many reasons. In our experience, most of our colleagues enjoyed not just the game itself, but also how they engaged in the game.

AVOID DIGITAL OVERLOAD

We know technology and digital
world very well - we cannot deny how important it becomes. Board game facilitates different kinds of communication between players, through verbal conversation, information exchange, interaction with the board, body language…etc.
It creates a real-time social moment for colleagues and hence connecting people, in another word, humanizing the whole team.

OUTCOMES

“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”

- Martin Luther King Jr.

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?

EMOTIONAL
ENVIRONMENT

  • Emotional environment in our workplace governs our colleagues’ feelings, performance and, ultimately, their success.

An article ‘Manage Your Emotional Culture’ by Sigal Barsade and Olivia A.O’Neill states that it is ‘up to senior leaders to establish which emotions will help the organization thrive’. Do have a read, I strongly recommend so.

By using our “Emotional Culture Deck” (designed by riders&elephants in Australia) as a basis, all colleagues within your school community are able to build their unique emotional culture together in literally just a few workshops with us.

WELLBEING &
MENTAL HEALTH

  • Many things happened every day. We get stressed, irritable and tired - often not knowing why or where the negative feelings come from. We can help you optimise your well-being and mental health with our board games - this actually works!

USING BOARD GAME FOR STUDENTS

  • There is a huge variety of board games to help students develop necessary skill-sets, healthy well-being, self-management and problem solving skills. In our workshops, students are encouraged to strengthen peer relationships, to empathetically think of others, and to consider different perspectives on matters with positive support and critical feedback.

ABOUT ME

Danny S. K. Kwan:
Educator and Board game Enthusiast

Welcome to my website!

I grew up with lots of board games. From Catan to Gloomhaven, having an afternoon full of board games was one of my life-long wishes. Even whilst I was a teacher, I kept using board games whenever I could, always trying to make my lessons more engaging and fun.

My board game hunger brought me to learn more on how board games could interact with people, from a professional perspective. I became a certificated board game instructor in 2020, which inspired me to launch Project Smarts Education.

From primary students to adults, board games serve as a unique dimension of education - an “opening portal to wonderland”, if you like.

When people play our games, the amount of information we read from them is extraordinary -  personality, social skills, problem solving techniques, mental health status, job satisfaction…etc. This information undoubtedly contributes to future success.

I am also an active team member of GRJ Education, which focuses specifically on Leadership Development for Middle and Senior Leaders in our schools. I’m always looking for ways in which Project Smarts Education can enhance this Leadership Development and add value to its offering.

This is an infinite journey of mine and I welcome everyone to join me!
